Herbaceous Perennials

We have an extensive selection of really wonderful herbaceous perennials, many of which are the ones that can be found in the Petersham House borders.

Our new delivery ranges from tried and trusted favourites to new and more unusual varieties. To ensure that your garden has continuous colour throughout the growing season there is a multitude of flowering perennials to choose from, many of which will continue to flower through to early autumn. Currently in flower and looking good Achillea, Agastache, Agapanthus, Calamintha, Cirsium, Dahlia, Echinacea, Hemerocallis, Kniphofia, Nepeta, Penstemon, Salvia, Verbena and Veronicastrum.

For mass plantings why not buy your perennials in 9cm pots which over time will create beautiful drifts of colour in your garden. These are great value at under £3 a pot while they're young but absolutely ready to go straight into the ground now to give their roots the best start. Now that the summer season is underway, we have more mature speciments in 2 & 3 L pots.

We love this month... RUDBECKIAS ‘cone flowers’

Rudbeckias are the absolute stars of the late summer border. They produce masses of golden yellow, orange and mahogany flowers from late summer into late autumn.

The following are just a few of our favourite varieties that we would recommend you try,

R. Hirta `Cherokee Sunset` - double and semi-double flowers in shades of yellow, orange, red, bronze and mahogany. A long blooming variety, good for cut flowers.  These plants attract butterflies and are deer resistant.

R. Hirta `Indian Summer` - an erect biennial with bristly stems bearing lanceolate to ovate leaves and dark-centred, broad-rayed, golden yellow daisies to 12cm across in summer and early autumn.

R. Triloba - a wonderful naturalistic style plant, reputedly short lived but gives such a long display its worth replacing. The individual flowers are much smaller than the Black Eyed Susan’s. This variety looks fantastic with late grasses.
